Visiting the tombs in Hue, seeing Danang from Son Tra Peninsula and enjoy the charming atmosphere of Hoi An ancient town at night is some experiences that you cannot skip during your trip to Central Vietnam. Here is an itinerary for 3 days in Hue – Danang – Hoi An.

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Hue

You should take a short flight to Hue in the evening or in the afternoon, so you will have time to explore the city’s charm in the evening and a full following day.

Start the day with your favorite Hue dish, a bowl of beef noodles with reddish broth or rice with mussels. These popular dishes can be found in basically everywhere around the city, and their prices are amazingly cheap and not very varying, except if you eat breakfast in a luxury restaurant or hotel. Don’t forget to enjoy a cup of coffee along the poetic Huong River after your breakfast.

The next stop of your day in Hue is the Citadel. Make sure you have enough time to cover all important sites and monuments within the citadel. It is suggested to hire a tour guide so you will get more insights than visiting without one.

In the afternoon, meander along the Perfume River, to reach Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most beautiful and famous Buddhist temples in Vietnam. Then choose one or two Nguyen’s emperor’s tomb to visit before ascending on time to the top of Vong Canh Hill, arguably the best place to get a spectacular view of the Perfume River and the city in the background, especially at sunset.

In the evening, sample different traditional Hue cakes which used to be served exclusively to the royal family in the past. Then walking along the Perfume River and stopping by for exploring the night market is always a good choice. End your day in Hue with a cup of “che Hue” before returning to the hotel to take a rest for a long trip the next day to Danang.

Day 2: Hue – Danang

You book your transfer in advance to arrive in Danang early in the morning, so you still have enough time to take a short rest before having breakfast. Remember that the best way to explore this city is to hire a motorbike so you will have freedom to discover a large area without having to pay extensively.

After gaining back your travel energy, get ready to head to the northeast of the city, where the spectacular Son Tra Peninsula rise up and offer a stunning view of the city center, especially on the top of it. Don’t forget to stop by the Linh Ung Pagoda to admire the giant statue of Guan Yin. The statue can be seen even from the city center which is more than 10 kilometers away..

You will return to the city for lunch. Enjoy your favorite local delicacies like the pork paper roll, Quang noodles…

After taking a nap in the hotel, begin your afternoon by a drive around the city center, traversing numerous modern bridges before getting to the beach in to have fun. In the evening, take a walk along the poetic Han River, preferably having a drink in a chic coffee or enjoy street food along the city’s most scenic and romantic place at night.

Day 3: Danang – Hoi An

Hoi An is only 40 kilometers to the south of Danang so it would take no more than one hour to get there. En route, you can also stop to visit the Marble Mountains.

The center of Hoi An is not very big so it’s suggested to travel on foot or by bike. When in Hoi An, don’t forget to visit the Japanese Bridge and several old houses located around the ancient town area.

One of the tourist attractions of this UNESCO World Heritage Site is its cuisine itself, famous for dishes like chicken rice, cao lau (a noodle dish inspired by the Japanese cuisine).

If you have enough time in day, go further to the east to enjoy the beach of Cua Dai, one of the finest beaches in Central Vietnam.

But the real charm of Hoi An can only be shown in the evening, when the town is adorned by colorful lanterns everywhere.
